999 is 75
And finally, a curiosity, via Mike Short. The 999 service has been in operation for 75 years in London - surprisingly, to me at least, 999 was not universally available in the UK till 1976. It makes me think how communication truly changes the way we think about the world. A service innovation that truly changed lives, not to mention saving them. It also makes me think how profoundly mobile services have changed our lives in the somewhat shorter period since they have been introduced.
... look forward to catching you on 3rd Sept - meanwhile, don't forget your sun screen!

Successfully marketing an app can mean a wide-ranging marketing strategy that begins well before your app is even live. With numerous tools (ranging from analytics to social media) available to help developers with discoverability of their app, we'll be reviewing the options - what promotional methods work (and which don't) and where developers should be focusing their efforts.
We’ll be discussing the various options in a panel session chaired by Tim Green (Executive Editor, Mobile Entertainment), who has been writing about mobile content since the market’s inception in 1999. Our panellists include Keith O'Brien (Head of Content Strategy, Samsung), Oded Ran (CEO, Touchnote), Richard Firminger (Managing Director, Flurry) and Paul Armstrong (Head of Social, Mindshare).
6.45 Panel Session
As usual attendance is free, but registration is required and registration is now open on EventBrite.
The CBI Conference Centre at Centre Point, the very tall building immediately above Tottenham Court Road tube station, on the Central and Northern Lines. Please use the entrance at street level under the bridge formed by the building itself.
Thanks to our lovely annual sponsors, Samsung, for their ongoing support.

After much deliberation, we have chosen the winner of the competition to win a stand at Mobile Marketing Live, which takes place in London on 1-2 October.
In fact, there's not one winner, but two. The judging panel, made up of representatives from Mobile Monday London and Mobile Marketing magazine, could not separate two of the entrants: Scramboo and PixelPin, so have decided to award the prize to both. They will now join the other exhibitors at the event, including InMobi, Adfonic, Cogenta, ScanLife, Textlocal, Prinovis and M&C Saatchi.
When we broke the news to PixelPin founder Geoff Anderson he said: “This is fantastic; it’s a great opportunity for us to get in front of a whole load of new customers we have not spoken to before. Bring it on.”
Scramboo’s flagship product is a platform which allows clients to create, publish and update their own HTML5 web apps and mobile experiences. It includes an easy-to-use, browser based authoring tool which is location and augmented reality enabled, a sophisticated games rules engine, hosting, player account handing, an HTML5 presentation layer, and more.
When we told co-founder Douglas Robb that he had won a place at the event, he said: “We are absolutely delighted, this is really important for us. We believe we have a genuine market lead in what we are doing, so we want to get out to market as quickly as possible and this is a big opportunity for us to do that. We’ll run live demos at the event where people can create a game or publish content live and walk away with a URL where they can send people to experience the game.
We received more than 20 entries for the competition, and were hugely impressed by the high standard of the entries. We had originally planned to give away one stand, but it was so difficult to separate Scramboo and PixelPin that we decided both deserved their place.
Thanks to everyone who entered. You can also get 25% discount on a ticket by using code MOMO25 at http://www.mobilemarketingmagazine.com/live/.
